Personal Development Areas When you want to quit: Being a VISTA can be challenging. So much so that you may find yourself wanting to quit. Each site differs in their structure and organization and support their VISTA's at various levels. If you find yourself in a position where you think quitting would be ideal, look at your circumstances that could be contributing to that. How is your relationship with your supervisor? Do you need to clarify anything with them? (Direction, lack of supervision, lack of communication, lack of structure, etc?) Location? Are the winter months depressing you? This is more common than you may think! Find an outlet that gives you joy. (Exercising, Art, Crafts, Music, Writing, etc.) Lack of direct service? Some VISTA's have a harder time adjusting from direct service to indirect service. If this is your case, find areas to serve in your free time. Share with other VISTA's, you're probably not the only one feeling this way! They can be a source of encouragement to hang in there for a time!
