Dual Credit Program

High school students considering a career in law enforcement can earn credit toward a criminal justice degree and participate in early police training through enrollment in the Hometown Recruiting Program .
Hometown Recruiting is a collaborative effort involving the Arlington Police Department , Arlington Independent School District , and the University of Texas at Arlington . This program builds upon existing early admissions efforts between the university and school district .
The program also enhances the department ' s recruiting efforts for future police officers .

Hometown Recruiting

In 2015 , the department teamed up with the Arlington Independent School District and the University of Texas at Arlington to begin planting the seeds of working in law enforcement with high school students . The program gives students a handson opportunity to learn , see , and experience what law enforcement officers go through daily .
The program has experienced rapid growth , with a 300 % increase in applications . The program has graduated approximately 84 students and continues to keep in touch with members pursuing their careers in law enforcement both locally and abroad .
The Arlington Police Association , Arlington Police Foundation , and Amigos En Azul have donated money to help pay for tuition costs for students earning dual credit hours in criminal justice at UTA . Additionally , they have assisted with the costs of sponsorship for Hometown Recruiting Program events such as rock climbing , 5K runs , and students ’ required gear purchases .
