ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING REPORT | 14 Edmonton Northwest Out of School Care Respectfully Submitted by André Davis Our Program The Edmonton Northwest Out of School Care (OOSC) primarily serves the children and families that attend Inglewood Elementary School. However, we also have children that attend other schools like St. Pius X Elementary School, Govenor School and Holy Cross Elementary. All children attending other schools are bussed to and from the OOSC. The relationship we have with Inglewood Elementary School is stronger than ever! We rely on our friends at Inglewood and we are proud to be part of the school. The new Principal, Janet Laddish, is always supportive of everything we do and so are all of the teachers. This past year, we have worked together on many events for the children in our care. Our staff help out with school supervision in the morning and lunch time, which of course include the children in our program. We participated in the annual school BBQ, Winter Fun Day, Summer Fun Day and volunteered on school field trips to help with supervision. We work collaboratively with the teachers to ensure our children make the best choices and reach their full potential. 68 children served in 2011-2012 80 children served in 2012-2013 Inglewood School continues to be a part of the Apple Schools Project, which means; “students’ active living and healthy eating habits will be supported through sustainable changes to school, home and community environments.” We also try our best to follow by offering healthy breakfasts and snacks, and encouraging children and families to bring healthy lunches. We do supply food to any child who comes to school hungry. Our Centre: Activities Our children continue to be involved in different aspects of our centre. When we do our weekly planning for activities and snack menu, we use the self-directed philosophy. Almost everything we do is based on the children’s interest. If we are purchasing equipment, toys, food and more, our children always have the most input –after all, it’s their centre and their time. Our children are always involved in the organization’s events that are held at the Inglewood Community League. They made the centrepieces for our Society’s Annual Festive Meal; and assisted with the Garage Sale by helping to set up the event, and having their families donate many bags of clothes. They baked cookies for a local church bake sale, and they helped set up our Multicultural Family event –even bringing their families to volunteer. We are fortunate to have amazing creative children in our care.
