A Little History
More than 300 years ago , the area now known as Fair Lawn was settled by Dutch fur traders who came up the Hackensack and Passaic Rivers to trade with the Hackensack Indians of the Lenni-Lenape tribe . The Borough was first known as Slooterdam , then Small Lots and finally part of Saddle River Township from which it seceded in 1924 and became known as Fair Lawn Borough . Since 1933 , the spelling of the borough name has been established as Fair Lawn .
