Police and Fire Protection
Police Department
Fair Lawn ’ s 58- member Police Department has its own firearms training facility and was among the first in the country to provide a professional growth plan for members . The Auxiliary Police , a volunteer organization of approximately 25 residents , augment the regular force in traffic and crowd control .
Fire Department
The Fair Lawn Fire Department is comprised of four fire companies staffed by volunteers . The Chief , Deputy Chief , Assistant Chief , Battalion Chief and Captains of each company head the department . The department responds to close to 1,000 fire calls every year . All firefighters are graduates of the Bergen County Police & Fire Academy . Proficiency is maintained with weekly
Elections
Elections are held at least three times a year . General elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November . Primary elections to select party candidates are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June . Absentee Ballots
Information concerning absentee ballots for all elections is available from the Bergen County Clerk 201-336-7000 or the Fair Lawn Borough Clerk ’ s 201-794-5340 . training sessions at the Fire Department training center on Saddle River Road . All four companies rely heavily on donations from local businesses and residents to help maintain their firehouse and to sponsor community oriented programs .
The Fire Prevention Bureau is comprised of four paid Fire Inspectors who enforce the Fire Code as mandated by state law and borough ordinance .

Fair Lawn ’ s attractive 173-acre Industrial Park has often been referred to as the “ Fabulous Mile ”. Established in 1955 , the Park contributes substantial revenues without affecting the residential character of the Borough .
