very generation leaves its mark on the communities, organizations and professions it serves. At the same time, each new generation benefits from the experience, lessons and relationships built by those who came before it. That connection is at the heart of this, our September issue,“ Next Generation.”
Throughout these pages, we explore what the future of the community association industry may look like and the people who will help shape it. A special collection of perspectives from a young homeowner, a young community association manager and a young business partner offers a firsthand look at how the next generation views community living, professional growth and the industry they are stepping into.
You will also find a thoughtful look at the important role mentorship plays in preparing future leaders. Knowledge gained over years of experience is most valuable when it is shared, and mentorship provides an opportunity for seasoned professionals to guide emerging leaders while also gaining fresh perspectives of their own.
Preparing for the future also requires us to look beyond the challenges directly in front of us. This issue examines the forces that may influence CAI and the community association profession in the years ahead, including workforce changes, new technology, shifting expectations and the growing need for transparency.
Of course, progress also brings new responsibilities. As associations increasingly rely on social media and digital communication, boards and managers must understand the legal, recordkeeping and liability concerns that may accompany those tools.
As we look ahead, it is also worthwhile to look back. A journey through more than two decades of our chapter magazine reminds us how much our publication, and our industry, has evolved. The technology, regulations and terminology may change, but our commitment to education, professionalism and stronger communities remains constant.
The next generation is not simply waiting in the wings. They are already serving on boards, managing communities, building businesses, asking new questions and bringing new ideas to the table. Our responsibility is to welcome their voices, share what we have learned and give them opportunities to lead.
The future of our industry will be shaped by all of us, one conversation, one connection and one emerging leader at a time.
