Benefits of going electronic with payments
For decades, homeowners have mailed paper checks to pay monthly HOA or condominium fees. It’ s a familiar routine— write the check, drop it in the mailbox, and trust the U. S. Postal Service to deliver it. But today, this approach carries more risks than many realize. With rising mail theft, check fraud, and postal delays, both homeowners and associations are better protected when payments are made electronically.
1. Mail theft puts your dues at risk
HOA and condo payments are prime targets for criminals because they’ re often for large amounts and sent on predictable schedules. Thieves can steal checks from mailboxes or USPS collection boxes, then“ wash” them— erasing the payee and amount— to create a new check they can cash or deposit.
Why electronic payments help:
With online banking, ACH transfers, or association payment portals, your money travels directly from your account to the association’ s— there’ s no physical check to intercept or alter.
