Godley High School graduate Taryn Franks turned growing passion into future career

For much of her childhood, Taryn Franks believed her future would be found on a softball field.
She began playing at just 4 years old, competing first in recreational leagues and later in travel softball with the American Freedom organization. She even played junior varsity softball at Godley High School.
But along the way, another passion began to take root.
Franks discovered the agricultural world, began showing livestock and joined the livestock judging team. Before long, she realized she enjoyed being in the show barn and competing in agricultural contests even more than being on the softball diamond.
“ I first realized this was something important to me when I found myself enjoying it more than playing softball, which at the time was what my whole life revolved around,” she said. After her freshman year, Franks hung up her cleats to focus on her show animals, FFA and agricultural competitions. That decision placed her on a path she now plans to follow into college and, eventually, into a career.

Being recruited is the accomplishment Franks said makes her most proud.
“ Livestock judging is something I enjoy so much, and I have so much passion for the agriculture and livestock show world,” she said.“ I wasn’ t ready for that part of my journey to end.”
At first, she did not believe competing at the college level would be possible. That changed when Howard College livestock judging coach Tatum Christie contacted her about joining the team.
“ I was so surprised and excited,” Franks said.“ I just felt so grateful that she saw something in me and that it meant I got to continue doing what I love beyond high school.”
Franks built an impressive agricultural resume during her time at GHS. She served on the Godley FFA officer team from 2024-26. She also competed on the agricultural advocacy team for four years, qualifying for state three times and helping the team earn
