COVID-19 has changed life as we know it . The changes have been challenging to say the least , and yet , our volunteer board members , owners and residents , management professionals and business partners are still rising to the COVID-19 challenge every day . We are proud of you .
What COVID-19 changes have been the real standouts in the HOA world ?
Consider the fact that prior to COVID-19 , the word “ ZOOM ” existed in most people ’ s vocabulary as descriptive word in a child ’ s story book . Today “ ZOOM ” is probably the most widely understood universal word in the world . ZOOM and other virtual meeting platforms are now the universal bridge for conducting association business , in addition to keeping us connected to family and friends . Owners have the option of attending association board meetings from the comfort of their own homes . Owner attendance at association board meetings has actually increased . Association transparency is now as close as your phone or computer .
COVID-19 changes made us realize that permitting electronic voting in association elections and on association business deserves another serious look by our legislators . So does the issue of when and how virtual board meetings can be conducted . Consider Civil Code 4090 ( b ) as just one example of a law that needs updating .
