THE INSIDER TRIBUTE TO A SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY LEADER T aking a moment to honor one of San Diego’s top, brilliant, caring citizen and community leaders – George Mitrovich 1934 – 2019 U-T, July 26, 2019, By Peter Rowe “A native San Diegan who seemed to be on a first name basis with everyone from presidents to ballpark ushers. An outsized personality, Mitrovich made an impact on local and national politics, sports and public policy, often through four of his creations: the City Club, the Denver Forum, the Great Washington, D.C., Writers Series and the Great Fenway Park Writers Series, the last based in Boston. “They say the great ones remind you of no one else,” said Larry Lucchino, part-owner of the Boston Red Sox and former president/CEO of the San Diego Padres.” And there’s no one else like George Mitrovich.” I’m honored to have known George, who created a “more welcoming community” wherever he was and with whomever he met. He treated people (big names to no names) the way we all want to be treated. Thank you George, for always setting the right tone and making our world smarter and nicer.
