ABOUT CIIP ...

The Center for Social Concern ( CSC ) fosters a lifelong commitment to active citizenship among JHU undergraduates by integrating education , action , and reflection into community-focused programming for Hopkins ’ students within Baltimore City . We envision a world in which Hopkins students are active citizens within their current and future communities .
The Community Impact Internships Program ( CIIP ) is a competitive , paid summer internships program that pairs JHU undergraduate students with nonprofit organizations and government agencies , and offers an intensive , cohortbased learning environment . It is housed within the Center for Social Concern at Johns Hopkins University . The internships focus on community-identified projects in Baltimore City and run for eight weeks from June-August .
The goal of this program is two-fold : to give JHU undergraduates an opportunity to be directly involved in a community in Baltimore City , and to support the important work being done by our partners .
The 2022 CIIP cohort worked throughout Baltimore City and remotely in a variety of organizations , stepping up to the challenge of community engagement amidst the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic . Interns focused on eight interest areas : Community Arts ; Environment , Sustainability and Community Health ; Family Wellness ;
Government / Policy ; Healthcare ; Neighborhood and Community Organizing ; Youth and Education ; and Non-Profit Management . After eleven years of CIIP , more than 500 undergraduates and over 100 community partners have been able to participate in this program , contributing to over 150,000 hours of work through Baltimore ’ s communities . This program is made possible thanks to generous gifts totaling over $ 3 million from a private donor .
