When I first received notice of my placement at Keswick , initially , I was a little stressed . Keswick is a really large organization that includes their long-term care facility , Wise & Well ( a wellness center for older adults ), and a variety of partner organizations that have related missions and often work in tandem with Wise & Well . At such a big organization , I wasn ’ t quite sure how I would find my place or where I would be able to contribute . However , when I arrived , many of my fears were immediately diminished . With the support of my supervisor and the help of many other kind staff members , I quickly settled in and felt acclimated .
Because I was at an organization with such a wide range of responsibilities and activities , I spent my days participating in a wide variety of tasks . I often found myself on the long-term care side of the facility , reading to and talking with residents or transporting people to and from art therapy classes and other recreational activities . I ’ ve also had a great time participating in classes at Wise & Well . I made it a priority to attend Line Dancing every Tuesday and have found this to be one of my favorite parts of the week . I spent most mornings working at my computer , making slideshows , researching for various projects , or making phone calls to recipients of past interventions to follow up and provide support .
This experience has been a really valuable learning opportunity . Keswick aims to create a continuum of care that extends from early maturity to the end of life , and supports individuals through life events , like unexpected falls . It has been interesting to see the way personnel in different roles must work together to establish this continuum , and I have found myself to be really aligned with their philosophy and approach to care . I am so thankful to the many staff members who have supported and welcomed me with open arms , and who have gone out of their way to make my experience a meaningful one .
