Community Impact Internships Program Booklet 2022_FINAL | Page 28

As an intern with Fusion , I had the chance to learn about the role that Fusion plays as a fiscal sponsor in the Baltimore community . It was incredible to learn just how many of the CIIP community partners are also Fusion partners ; this helped me to realize the gravity of the liberation work Fusion is doing . By participating in staff meetings and daily operations , I was able to learn about the complexity of grant and government funding . Fusion helps partners to navigate this difficult process so that they can continue the incredible work they are doing for our communities . Money matters , but it carries a power that has not always been used with the proper lens of diversity and inclusion ; Fusion ' s mission is centered around social justice and empowering community partners through funding opportunities and helping money to flow into our communities where it matters the most .
Partners are able to engage in a large network of support at Fusion ; each partner is managed by one of our Partner Engagement Coordinators . These members of the PEC team provide a plethora of support in applying for grants , event planning , managing finances , and more . Each organization has its own unique mission , whether it be a focus in arts and media , education , neighborhood development , food access , or any of the other many focus areas that help facilitate social justice in Baltimore . Fusion builds trusting and compassionate relationships with partners and allows them to have ownership over how they use grant funds to support their respective missions .
It was an incredible opportunity for me to get an inside look at the relationships between Fusion and its community partners that lead to the execution of so many essential community events and programs . By working on several projects directly with the Partner Engagement team , I learned what makes the wheels at Fusion turn and the incredible compassion and dedication to the mission that relationships with partners require . The largest scale event I was able to attend during the span of my internship was the Cherry Hill Waterfront Festival put on by one of Fusion ' s partners , the Youth Resiliency Institute . One of the leaders of YRI was a performer at the festival , and her performance touched many , including myself . It was amazing to experience such an important community event and to know that Fusion played a large role in that event being able to happen .
My experience with Fusion opened my eyes to the world of fiscal sponsorship ; I now have a new respect for the often thankless work that is happening to manage and maintain fiscal sponsorship in a non-profit environment .
Began developing a partner resource directory in collaboration with the Partner Engagement team that includes legal resources , information about recruiting volunteers , and a master database of grants divided by focus area for community partners
Assisted with the planning for a Fusion Staff Retreat held to strengthen the relationship of the Fusion team and goal plan for the coming fiscal year
Supported the Partner Engagement team with the integration of Discord as an online platform to be used for internal / external communication
Provided general support around events and partner engagement by attending partner events as needed
Implemented sustainable event calendar maintenance that allows partners to collaborate in adding events to it , in order to better encourage Fusion support at partner events along with more marketing / communication opportunities
