Community Impact Internships Program Booklet 2022_FINAL | Page 16

Interning at the Central Baltimore Partnership has been incredibly impactful overall , from the areas of work I explored and the relationships I made with the staff , to the interactions I had with the residents . I feel incredibly lucky to have had a placement that allowed me to be completely submerged in the non-profit work world , as I got to explore community health , community development , neighborhood organizing , and city-wide event planning . I was able to explore my interest in mental health and wellbeing by providing health information to residents while tabling at various community centers and by creating resource guides . I even created walking maps to provide information to residents on how to get to various neighborhood resources , such as recreation and mental centers . I also had the opportunity to aggregate quality of health data for grant applications .
Not only did I get to explore my passions , but I was also brought out of my comfort zone by promoting CBP ’ s Art Walk for the Station North Arts District . As someone who is not very artistic , I was nervous and hesitant to work on CBP ’ s artist initiatives . However , I had a blast canvassing neighborhoods , dropping off flyers , speaking to venues , and learning about the traditional and street artists in Baltimore . Not only did I get to explore aspects of my known interest , but I was challenged and introduced to areas of work that I wasn ’ t familiar with .
In addition to the meaningful work I got to do at CBP , I had the opportunity to form relationships with the residents of Central Baltimore by attending neighborhood events such as the Boone Street Picnic and Jazz in the Park at Greenmount West . Furthermore , I ’ m grateful to have also made lasting relationships with the CBP staff . They were incredibly welcoming and nurturing by showing and eating lunch with me at the best restaurants near our office , and by providing me with advice as I embark on my professional journey .
As the summer comes to a close , I ’ m leaving thankful for the opportunity I had to grow as a community member and organizer . I know this transformative summer will shape the way I interact with Baltimore throughout my time at Hopkins .
