Community Impact Internships Program Booklet 2022_FINAL | Page 12

Prior to working with my supervisor Andy at the Baltimore Urban Baseball Association ( BUBA ), I had no experience with baseball or nonprofit management . Fortunately , all I had was all I needed : a desire to help people and a willingness to learn . Every single day at BUBA , I had many opportunities to do both .
I learned how to lead basic warm-up and tee bat drills and assisted with pitching to youth athletes . I analyzed and explained the data captured by the HitTrax software to athletes and helped them interpret the data for themselves . I assisted every new athlete with the registration process and explained the policies of our facility . Through these simple acts , I developed invaluable relationships with members of the Baltimore community .
Because every day and every week had its own array of tasks , setbacks , and challenges , I gradually became comfortable with discomfort and viewed everything as a learning opportunity . I grew to be knowledgeable in industry-specific software such as Virtuagym , HitTrax , TRAQ , and Driveline training techniques . I also learned how to implement services such as Shopify , Mailchimp , Chip In , Facebook and Instagram fundraising , and Canva to support BUBA ’ s mission . I even learned how to read a schematics diagram to fix a mechanical pitching machine and replace our water fountain filter ! With no limit to what I was asked to do , there was no limit on what I could learn .
Overhauled and streamlined registration and sign-in processes for dozens of athletes with Canva , Mailchimp , and Virtuagym
Managed every aspect of the facility by performing repairs and safety checks on the alarm system , pitching machines , and exterior property
Developed a system of using our facility as an event and fundraising space for local organizations
Redesigned the BUBA website to simplify access to information , merchandise ( using Shopify ), and the donation portal ( using Chip In )
