‘Foster Community Garden is located in Foster Botanical Garden on the island of Oahu. The
Honolulu Community recreational Gardening Program (HCRGP) started in 1975 and is intended
to provide citizens with access to recreational gardening, especially in areas where high rise
buildings and condominiums are found whose residents would not otherwise have access.
There are over 1,300 gardeners in the HCRGP. The individual plot sizes vary from 85 sq. ft. to
800 sq. ft. at a reasonable cost per year. The HCRGP attracts people from all ages, races, and
diverse backgrounds. Gardening is one of the largest recreational activities found in America as
well as in Hawaii, especially with the weather where growing conditions are ideal all year
round’.
