Letter from the Editor
It is the Winter time….and, we’re told by our Weathercasters that Spring is
just about six weeks away. For those of us who LOVE Spring….it is Super!
News. Of course, I live each day as it comes and wish nothing less than to
Enjoy! each day as it comes. So, even in cold, icy, snowy weather, I bring
out the Hot Coffee, some Treats to eat and just enjoy what is here.
For some of you and your Groups you are working on what plants to grow,
where are the Volunteers coming from, Fundraising, and, what Community
Garden Design will you be needing this year. It is important to keep in
mind the various rotation of crop and the series of various planting seasons
you want for this year. Keep in mind the shade need, sunlight, watering
aspects, and, the usual growing season in which you may want to add a
Hoop House or a Garden House, whether personal size that is light weight
or a strong sound structure. There is always a lot to consider when having
a Community Garden.
Inside this month issue are examples of what others have done in Design
with the space they have. You Design your space with Software that can
be FREE or to be purchased, or, what my Family has done for decades
with our Gardens use pencil and paper. And, yes, an eraser comes in
handy a lot of times. If you want to extend your Growing Season think of
Hoop Houses, which Sold Out at some places, use of Garden Houses, and,
even use of old downtown Warehouses.
Keep your options open. Weather can dictate when you can plant items,
what to plant, and how to take care of them. Last year, a lot of us got a
LOT of rain and it was a month longer before some of us in the Midwest
could even do planting outside. Keep in there. Enjoy! the Season!
Have a Great Community Garden Day!
