Community Garden Magazine Issue One, September 2015 | Page 5

Letter from the Publisher Greetings! I love Community Gardens. I believe that they can help stop Hunger in America and from around the World in a short moment. Although, it can’t be fixed completely, Hunger can be won at short notice once we can have more done. In this Publication, there will be many subjects that we will touch upon. We all need each other. Food Hubs, Hydroponics and Aquaponics, Urban Farms, Small Farms, Small Farm incubators, Distribution sites, Processing, Production Kitchens, Vertical Gardens, School and University Gardens, Gardens for the Seniors, and, much, much more, all touch upon one main theme: Feeding ourselves and feeding others with FRESH healthy Fruits and Vegetables. I don’t have a Green Thumb, but, have helped in my Family Garden for decades. Being older, it is container Gardening. Just my size. I am always thrilled when folks start a Community Garden no matter where it is, what State, City, Town, or School. It is always so neat to see these folks go after their passion. To see them grow in their knowledge and understanding what fits them is priceless, beyond words. Do remember to Donate one row out of your Community Garden to a local Food Pantry or local Food Bank. Studies have shown that folks will grab the FRESH food items faster than the canned goods. As fast as you can help fill in their shelves the FRESH food flies into their basket. No matter the reason you start a Community Garden. It is needed. There can’t be enough Community Gardens started. One out of six people, or seven, depending upon where you live, are going Hungry TODAY. They are making harsh decisions of paying for a car repair, a dentist appointment, some new shoes, or, new clothing, versus eating today. An unexpected Emergency crept up and destroyed their budget. It happens. If there was a Community Garden nearby where they live, they could still have a GREAT meal tonight, or, at lunch, and still function. How many Community Gardens can you start today and help allow more folks to have dignity to make sure they have a meal on the table for them and, or, their Family. Come join us on this Great adventure of “Community Garden” Magazine. We all share in the passion to set things right, in todays World, for a brighter Today and future. Your help is needed to make this World of ours better. You can make a HUGE difference in folks lives, in your town, and in your Neighborhood today. In time, the Editor will be on board and she will make this structure look like a ‘normal’ Magazine look. I’m just here to get this started. The message is just too important to wait. Start a Community Garden Today! Have a Great Community Garden Day! Mary K. Hukill, Publisher
