‘ Foster Community Garden is located in Foster Botanical Garden on the island of Oahu . The Honolulu Community recreational Gardening Program ( HCRGP ) started in 1975 and is intended to provide citizens with access to recreational gardening , especially in areas where high rise buildings and condominiums are found whose residents would not otherwise have access . There are over 1,300 gardeners in the HCRGP . The individual plot sizes vary from 85 sq . ft . to 800 sq . ft . at a reasonable cost per year . The HCRGP attracts people from all ages , races , and diverse backgrounds . Gardening is one of the largest recreational activities found in America as well as in Hawaii , especially with the weather where growing conditions are ideal all year round ’.
