HIGH TUNNEL / HOOP HOUSE PHASE TWO OF THE AGRICULTURAL CENTER
Professor Victor Khan , Plant Breeder with Tuskegee University has already begun phase two of the Agricultural Center which is the construction of a High Tunnel / Hoop House . These houses are designed to extend the growing season into the colder months of October through April by providing a greenhouse type structure where the plants are protected from the cool temperatures . High value crops such as squash , tomatoes , peppers and etc will be grown and sold during a time when locally grown fresh vegetables are not readily available .
The dimensions of the house will be 28 feet wide , 80 feet long and 6 feet in height . The bedding plants will be planted directly into the soil .
The diagram above shows the frame for the hoop house . This house was designed by V . A . and C . A . Khan , E . G . Rhoden and J . R . Bartlett-Tuskegee University School of Architecture .
