PRESCHOOL ANOKA-HENNEPIN SCHOOLS ANOKA-HENNEPIN SCHOOLS PRESCHOOL The Community Education department is proud to offer four preschool program options for both three- and four-year- old children, which gives families an opportunity to access resources and support from the Anoka-Hennepin School District before entering kindergarten: Three-year-old preschool Half-day preschool classes with two- or three-day class options, open to families with a child three years of age by Sept. 1, 2019. Parents provide transportation. Four-year-old preschool - option 1 Free, half-day (Mon.-Thurs.) preschool option, open to residents of Anoka-Hennepin Schools with a child four years of age by Sept. 1, 2019, who meet income guidelines and live or attend daycare in attendance areas of specific elementary schools. Transportation provided by Anoka-Hennepin Schools. Four-year-old preschool - option 2 Free, half-day (Mon.-Fri.) preschool option, open to residents of Anoka-Hennepin Schools with a child four years of age by Sept. 1, 2019. Transportation provided by Anoka-Hennepin Schools. No income eligibility guidelines. As a parent, you want to be sure that your child is ready for kindergarten. Preschool serves as an introduction to the school experience. Anoka- Hennepin Schools Preschool provides an introduction to the school experience in comfortable and inspiring classroom environments where students learn and grow, and become ready for kindergarten. The program follows a curriculum closely aligned with the Anoka-Hennepin Schools kindergarten curriculum and is taught by licensed teachers. In addition, Anoka-Hennepin Schools Preschool uses a common assessment tool to evaluate student learning, which is aligned with districtwide kindergarten readiness benchmarks. Children gain important skills and experiences in: • Learning to follow routines and rules. • L  earning to get along with other children. • Literacy, pre-reading skills and writing. • M  ath and number sense, science, art and music. 23
