EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING
What is Early Childhood Screening ?
Early Childhood Screening is a FREE , simple check of how your child is growing , developing , and learning .
The goal is to screen a child before they turn 4-years old . This allows health and developmental concerns to be addressed at least one to two years before a child enters kindergarten .
During the screening , your child will complete developmental activities to see if they ’ re meeting important milestones specific for their age . Early childhood screening appointments typically take an hour .
Qualified professionals will look at your child ’ s :
• Fine and gross motor skills .
• Vision and hearing .
• Speech and language development .
• Height and weight .
• Cognitive and social development .
• Immunizations .
Why Screening ?
It ’ s required .
The state of Minnesota requires a health and developmental screening for every child before entering kindergarten . Early Childhood Screening is NOT a kindergarten readiness assessment and should not be put off until right before kindergarten .
