SUMMER PRESCHOOL
Anoka-Hennepin Community Education offers a summer
preschool program for children entering kindergarten in fall
2019. The program follows a curriculum closely aligned with
the Anoka-Hennepin School District kindergarten curriculum
and is taught by licensed teachers. Children must be five years
old on or before September 1, 2019, to enroll.
Tuition and tuition assistance
Why choose a preschool
program through
the school district?
As a parent, you want to be sure that
your child is ready for kindergarten.
Preschool serves as an introduction to
the school experience. Anoka-Hennepin
Schools Preschool introduces children to
that school experience in comfortable
and inspiring classrooms where students
work on skills necessary to be successful
in kindergarten.
The tuition for the four-week (16 sessions) program is $345.
Full tuition is due at the time of registration. Tuition includes
a $25 non-refundable registration fee. Tuition assistance is
available for families based on income and family size. Fee
waivers may be granted for special circumstances.

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood off the Mississippi River
is Riverview Early Childhood Center. This location has five
spacious preschool classrooms, a gym, an outdoor playground,
and it’s own greenhouse and gardens.
Located in the northeast corner of Brooklyn Park, access is
easy - just off West River Road - yet feeling far away from any
metro congestion. Preschool teacher Elizabeth Saxerud says,
“Our best feature is our outside space! We have so many
opportunities to learn from our natural environment. We
regularly see turkeys, deer, eagles, geese and other wildlife.”
Inviting atmosphere
When families enter Riverview Early Childhood Center for
the first day of preschool, they immediately feel the inviting
atmosphere. “I love the Riverview staff. The relationship
between students and staff, and parents and staff - you just
can’t get any better,” said a Riverview Childhood Center
preschool parent.
Each classroom has hands-on materials that support
exploration in the learning centers depending on the study
focus. The classrooms also have large windows that run the
length of the classroom, bringing the feel of nature right into
the room.
Professional teaching staff
As with all Anoka-Hennepin Schools Preschool locations,
classrooms at Riverview Early Childhood Center are staffed
by licensed teachers. Teachers use intentional strategies to
meet children’s individual needs while following a curriculum
that is closely aligned with the Anoka-Hennepin School District
kindergarten curriculum.
“I love this preschool because it so directly correlates with
kindergarten expectations. My child will be well prepared for
[school in the] fall. Thank you for making a positive difference
in the life of children, especially mine!” shared a Riverview
preschool parent.
Glass greenhouse
One of the most unique features at
Riverview Early Childhood Center is the
greenhouse. Children learn about the
outdoors and nature, both in and out of
the greenhouse, through artwork, sensory
experiences, planting, watering and
weeding. Saxerud said, “Our green house
creates a space for children to watch plants
grow while we watch the children grow.”
Riverview Early Childhood Center has
more than twelve preschool class options
offered during the 2019-20 school year
for both three- and four-year-old children.
There are full- and half-day opportunities
with morning and afternoon class
sessions. Carol Benjamin, supervisor at
Riverview Early Childhood Center says,
“We are always excited to see families
experience Riverview for the first time.
It is truly the hidden gem of the Early
Learning program.”
