Are you looking for a way to strike up friendships with other parents or caregivers -- or want to find a great group you ’ d like to hang out with ? Why not consider our Book Study ? It ’ s a fun and easy way to spark discussions about all things parenting and to build relationships with other parents or caregivers . Join other parents / caregivers for a book study facilitated by an ECFE Parenting Educator . This session ’ s book - “ The Power of Showing Up ”. In an age of scheduling demands and digital distractions , showing up for your child might sound like a tall order . But authors Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson explain , it doesn ’ t take a lot of time , energy , or money . Instead , showing up means offering a quality of presence . Every child needs to feel the 4 S ’ s : safe , seen , soothed , and secure . Purchasing the book is not necessary for class participation but will aid in your learning .

Parenting is rewarding , yet it can be exhausting . If you can ’ t handle your own emotions or feel like you are running on empty , how will your child learn to have good coping skills ? After some dedicated time to play with your child , we ’ ll break to discuss ways to take care of you as a parent , so you can better take care of your child ’ s needs . Each week a different self-care idea will be highlighted ; additional parenting topics will be chosen by the group .

Raising a happy , healthy child is one of the most challenging jobs a parent can have -- and also one of the most rewarding . Yet many of us don ’ t approach parenting with the same focus we would use for a job . We may act on our gut reactions or just use the same parenting techniques our own parents used , whether or not these were effective . In his book , The Ten Basic Principles of Good Parenting , Laurence Steinberg , PhD , provides tips and guidelines based on some 75 years of social science research . A licensed Parenting Educator will lead discussions on the tips and guidelines as well as topics chosen by the participants .
