Our Mission | The Anoka-Hennepin School
District Community Education Department
is dedicated to lifelong learning, involving
people and enriching communities.
Anoka-Hennepin Community Education is dedicated to lifelong learning, involving people
and enriching communities. That mission statement was developed for our department
over 10 years ago, but it still rings true today.
Lifelong learning
Our team works hard to meet the needs and expectations of our community by providing
a wide variety of classes and activities for participants to learn and grow at all ages.
We found that 37 percent of participants in our classes are ages 55 and up. State
demographic research notes that the number of Minnesotans turning 65 in this decade
(approximately 285,000 people) will be greater than the past four decades combined.
Knowing that our community is changing, we want to continue making adjustments to our
programming to continue supporting lifelong learners, and we want to hear from you! Our
participants shape the future of our program, and to offer the highest quality classes, we
want your feedback. Learn more to get involved in this process on page 23 of this catalog.
Involving people
As you page through this catalog, you may notice that we are offering classes and activities
at a handful of new locations, including local senior housing and assisted living facilities.
These classes and activities are open for anyone to attend, as it is just one of the ways that
we have been working to ensure that our classes are accessible to more of our community
members, no matter what age and stage of life they are in.
Socialization and stimulating the mind and body with opportunities to learn provide
valuable mental and physical health benefits. We hope that these efforts will continue
to enrich the communities that we live in by offering more opportunities for community
integration to everyone.
Enriching communities
Community education programs impact our schools, businesses, organizations and our
communities. Your personal impact is greater than you may realize. Our community relies
on the skills and talents of people to learn and grow, and we are always looking for people
to join us in supporting lifelong learners.
Consider joining our team, and share your love for learning! Community education offers
programs for people ages birth through adulthood. The classes and activities in this
catalog are just a sample of the wide variety of programs that Anoka-Hennepin Community
Education offers.
• Visit our website, www.discovercommunityed.com, to view and register for any of the
programs that we offer.
• Visit www.ahschools.us/jobs to view current full- and part-time openings. The school
district hires more than teachers – we hire child care staff, food service professionals,
school bus drivers, custodians and so much more!
• Visit www.ahschools.us/instructors to teach a community education class.
Thank you for your continued support of community education. We hope to see you and
your families in our classes this summer.
