Our Mission | The Anoka-Hennepin School
District Community Education Department
is dedicated to lifelong learning, involving
people and enriching communities.
Our team works hard to meet the needs and expectations of our community by
providing a wide variety of classes and activities to continue to learn and grow
at all ages. We thrive in researching trends, the needs of our community, and
finding new ways to share ideas and resources for lifelong learning with our
neighbors – of all ages and abilities.
While we continue offering some of the tried and true classes and activities that
are favorites of our adult participants, it’s exciting to try something new! A few
of the new classes we are offering for adults this spring and summer include
learning about the legal aspects of starting a new business, laughter yoga,
metal detecting, RV repair, healthy cleaning, aromatherapy, and 5K training.
You are likely familiar with the offerings in this catalog for adults, but did you
know that Community Education offers something for everyone, ages 0 to 100?
• When families have a new baby, they can seek support from Early Childhood
Family Education (ECFE) parent educators by requesting a home visit to
learn how to support their new child’s growth and development from infancy
to when they enter elementary school. Learn more at www.ahschools.us/
homevisits.
• School-age children can enroll in enrichment classes and activities after-
school, on the weekend, in the evening and over the summer months
through the Community Schools program. We offer summer camps, clinics
and activities for children in preschool through grade eight. (Watch for that
catalog at www.discovercommunityed.com by March 15.)
• When children enter high school, driver’s education can offer families new
opportunities for independence. Starting this spring, Community Education
has partnered with Safeway Driving School to provide an additional
opportunity for high school students to complete their classroom and
behind-the-wheel instruction outside of the traditional school day. Classes
will be held at Andover, Blaine and Coon Rapids high schools this spring,
and additional classes will be offered in July and August. Visit
www.ahschools.us/CEdriverseducation to learn more.
• For adults who need help earning their high school diploma, GED or
building skills, Community Education offers free classes for adults who enroll
in adult basic education. Opportunities to learn English, study for United
States citizenship, improve basic math, reading, writing and computer skills,
and build workplace skills. Classes are free and flexible Monday through
Friday, with daytime and evening options at various locations across the
north metro. Visit www.metronorthabe.org to learn more and enroll.
We hope that you can find something to meet your own educational needs for
your family. Thank you for your continued support of community education. We
hope to see you and your families in our classes this summer.
