Known as the Halloween Capital of the World®, costumed tour guides will take you on a walk through the historic neighborhoods of Anoka. View (from the outside) homes and businesses that have been privy to some unexplained events, while your guide shares real stories that have been brought to the Anoka County Historical Society by the people who live and work in these buildings. Tour route is approximately one mile. Tour held rain or shine; dress for weather. Tour begins at Anoka County Historical Society in Anoka. An indoor orientation will be followed by quality time outside under the stars. Get to know constellations like The Big Bear, Cygnus the Swan, Pegasus the Winged Horse and the great stories behind them. We’ll use large reflecting telescopes, including two of the biggest mobile telescopes in Minnesota for close-up views of star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and more. Walk with Doug through his photos of Minnesota cemeteries and learn where the only Revolutionary War soldier to die in Minnesota is buried, the difference between a cemetery and graveyard, and the interesting history and meaning of gravestone designs. Little did he know that the light would never shine again for the mariners of this iconic Lake Superior National Landmark. Mike will enthrall you with stories from his U.S. Coast Guard experience, personal search and rescue stories, and the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in November of 1975. Explore the step-by-step process to make wine from fresh fruits, fruit juices and kit wines from around the world, as well as bottling and labeling techniques. You’ll make a kit wine, prepare fruits, and “balance” the juice so it’s ready for the fermentation step. Instructor worked as a home wine making consultant with a Twin Cities wine making supply company for many years.
