How to Connect With Your Community
What is community involvement and why is it important?
Learn what it means to volunteer so you can make a
difference in the world. Engage in meaningful discussions
with others as Tiffany Ostrom from the Metropolitan
Center for Independent Living (MCIL) helps you explore
topics like how to become a better community leader,
advocate for yourself, and find the perfect volunteer
position that suits your interests and abilities. This four-
session course is FREE and open to individuals aged 18+
with disabilities who are eager to make an impact in their
community. Receive the tools needed to become a dynamic

Hayride and Tour at Afton Apple Orchard
Take a fun hayride through the apple orchard and to the
pumpkin patch! You’ll pick 2 apples and be able to choose
your own small pumpkin, plus sample apple cider. On
this private tour, you will learn how to pick apples, why
bees are important, and what the orchard staff does to
protect their trees. Dress for the weather. This tour is not
wheelchair accessible. Meet Judy Ptacek at the orchard.

Be a Barista for a Night! Behind the Scenes at a Coffee Bar
Join our Senior Center Coffee Bar Barista, Jodi Olson, as she gives you a behind-the-scenes look
at how she serves up specialty coffee drinks. You’ll practice greeting “customers” (your fellow
classmates), taking a drink order, and making a fancy soda or coffee drink. In addition, you’ll learn
helpful customer service tips and participate in a few get-to-know-you games while you enjoy
the drink of your choice! Staff will need to pay for a beverage if they purchase one. (Participant’s
