Community Bankers of Iowa Monthly Banker Update June 2014 | Página 2

From the CEO & EVP, Don Hole Social Networking – Okoboji Style! Much ado is being made these days about “social networking” using tools like Twitter, Facebook, and other web based applications. As I thought about what the purposes of all these things are, it occurred to me that they were just substitutes for good old face-to-face communication. As we enter convention season for the forty-third year, it is apparent that community bankers in Iowa have been social networking since 1972 at the Annual Management Conference at Okoboji. Now in its third generation of bankers attending, the annual gathering exclusively for community bankers and the affiliates that serve them has ALWAYS been based on the social connections that make our industry successful as well as our relationships with support organizations and our communities and customers as well. We always have great business content and this year is no exception, with Washington columnist and author Michael Barone, Community bank expert Dr. Edmund Seifried from Pennsylvania, and Business Motivational speaker Garrison Wynn. Breakout sessions include information about the Affordable Care Act, Ag Lending and Regulatory Compliance, and a special presentation at our Town Hall breakfast will be Cory Knudtson, Director of Motorcycle Operations at Polaris Industries, manufacturer of Victory and the legendary Indian motorcycles. You’ll also hear from the Department of Banking, Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture and ICBA’s National president and CEO, Cam Fine. All that would be great for any banking convention, but the unique thing about our meeting in Okoboji is the tone and atmosphere of true camaraderie as members of the family of community banking in Iowa. Everyone is invited to attend virtually any general session and the entire family is welcome throughout the gathering. There are two morning breakfast meetings with great opportunities to network, a trade show that occurs in the middle of a gala reception and PAC auction, and optional recreational events like mixed pair and bankers golf, tournament style fishing with prizes, spouses sunrise shopping and spa day activities. Those who have attended the convention describe it as feeling like “a family reunion” but with valuable learning as well. Those of you who consistently attend and are probably registered by now know what I am talking about. To you, I would challenge you to talk about the convention with peers and invite them to experience the family of community banking. If you have never attended or haven’t recently, please plan to join us this year. You will be greeted with open arms. If you are new, we will even assign a ‘buddy” banker to make sure that you, your family and bank get the most out of the time spent. This year’s theme “Where the Rubber Meets the Road”, selected by the volunteer Convention Committee, encompasses the critical purpose and function of community banking in Iowa and the knowledge and success sharing that makes our industry strong, vibrant and on the move. So whether it’s a bicycle, motorcycle, car or truck, attending this year’s conference will strengthen your banks traction, “Where the Rubber Meets the Road”. So do your social networking up close and personal. In Okoboji, July 16-18. Your BFF bankers are looking forward to seeing you there. 2 CBI BANKER UPDATE | JUNE 2014 In This Issue From the CEO & EVP, Don Hole... 2 43rd Management Conference & Annual Convention..................... 3 PAC Donations Needed................ 3 .
