Background Founded in 1969 , Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island started with one route serving seventeen seniors in Providence . After more than 55 years and 20-million meals later , the organization continues to meet the nutritional and social needs of more than 3,500 individuals annually across the state . The “ More Than A Meal ” model , supported by over 500 volunteers , spans from Woonsocket to Westerly and Block Island , helping seniors and other special populations live safely and independently in their communities .
BRAG LINES Thanks to our volunteers , donors and partners , we are expanding our statewide impact . We serve over 400,000 meals annually . In addition to homebound , older adults , we now serve individuals with chronic illness , veterans , pregnant women and children . We are meeting the needs of Latin and Southeast Asian communities with culturally tailored menus and cafes . We are doing more for those we serve by offering medically tailored meals , supplemental groceries , and community health worker support . We prioritize equity , ensuring all Rhode Islanders have fair access to resources and opportunities to thrive .
Pay it Forward Your contribution to Meals on Wheels of RI will have an immediate impact on our work to lessen food insecurity and social isolation for at-risk Rhode Island residents statewide . You will help advance our work in ensuring equitable access to nutritional support and opportunity for improved health regardless of background or circumstances .
Becoming a Home-Delivered Meal Program volunteer driver offers a meaningful and rewarding way to give back to the community , providing nutritious meals and social connection to those we serve . We offer comprehensive training and flexible scheduling .
