Common Complications in Lasik Surgery- Peri-Operative Early Flap Dislocation and Epithelial Ingrowth July, 2014 | Page 4
Any kind of traumatic late flap dislocation post lasic eye surgery
must be treated as an ocular emergency. Patients with Traumatic
late flap dislocations have higher risk for flap folds, epithelial
ingrowth, DLK and infection. In such a condition, the usual
procedure is to raise the flap carefully and the interface is carefully
examined for any epithelial cells or other debris. The flap and the
corneal bed should be adequately scraped before the flap is
repositioned. For additional protection, a contact lens can be
applied to provide extra protection from further displacement and
to protect the flap from eyelid movement.
The patient should be adequately informed about such
complications before taking consent for carrying out the lasik eye
surgery. Patient who are involved in aggressive contact sports or in
jobs which require working in dusty environment must be
cautioned to take adequate protection to preempt any eye injury
