“ This is my family ,” Gail said shaking her head as she recalled the governor ’ s remarks . Despite his declaration , however , the Gordons said Christie hardly campaigned for Bob ’ s challenger . Bob , who has a reputation as an untiring campaigner willing to knock on thousands of doors to bring his message to voters , won re-election handily . All these years later , Gail still counts Christie as a personal friend and praises his first term as “ near perfection .”
Since Bob resigned from public office to accept the BPU seat , the political landscape changed somewhat , but the Gordons are still in a minefield . For example , this year ’ s gubernatorial race is hands-off for Gail . She adroitly points out that Bob serves at the pleasure of the governor . “ I ’ m not about to upset that apple cart ,” she said . Instead , her focus is elsewhere , like working on the re-election campaigns of GOP State Sen . Declan O ’ Scanlon , Steve Oroho , and Holly Schepisi and even helping Democrat Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese .
The biggest debates in the Gordon home now center on the national arena . In Gail ’ s estimation , “ I don ’ t believe the Trump election was stolen . I believe Joe Biden won it .” She said , however , the upheaval that was incited by the

president ’ s orders to withdraw the U . S . military from Afghanistan left them both very distressed .
But they view the future differently . Gail is praying that centrist Democrat Senators Krysten Sinema and Joe Manchin are able to temper Biden ’ s progressive agenda . “ I would take Bill Clinton back in a second ,” she said . While Bob said “ I ’ m waiting to see how it plays out in Congress .” He emphasized Biden ’ s reputation as a moderate and the many years he worked reaching across the aisle . Bob believes Biden can still build coalitions for the country ’ s betterment .
“ We ’ ve doubled down on agreeing to disagree ,” Gail said .
