Study Programme Students get the chance to present

their business idea to Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram

St Helens Chamber’s Study Programme students had the chance to present their business ideas to Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram this month.

The students have been working hard on creating their own social enterprise selling wax melts as part of their programme, to raise money for charity Knifesavers, and enjoyed the chance to showcase their work to the Metro Mayor, who spoke to the students about the benefits of an Apprenticeship and offered his advice for their business and their careers.

The students have created and run every part of their new venture, with the support of the training team at St Helens Chamber – this part of their course aimed to develop their business acumen and give them the skills they need to launch a product.

Carl Birchall-Fairhurst, Young People’s Development Team Leader at St Helens Chamber, commented: “Having the opportunity for the students to meet Steve Rotheram and present their ideas to him has been a real boost.

“The students have worked hard setting up and running their wax melt business and have developed skills in a range of different areas along the way – we’re really proud of their progress and professionalism when presenting their work.”

Study Programmes are delivered in Accountancy and Digital Marketing, and students work on a range of different projects alongside gaining their qualifications; allowing them to become stand out candidates for the Chamber’s range of exclusive Apprenticeship vacancies.

Each programme lasts for 6 months and allows 16–18-year-olds to gain the skills and experience they need to start a career in their chosen industries.

Carl continued: “The Study Programme provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to build up their skills and qualifications while gaining real life work experience.

“Just one of the benefits of the Study Programme is that students get access to business people and local authorities to support their learning and give them talking points in their interviews – and this amazing event was just one of the opportunities the students will have while they train with us.”
