Cherry Blossoms
Project : Light Sculpture Location : Seattle Architect : LightArt
LightArt , an award-winning lighting and sculpture studio in Seattle , created Cherry Blossoms at 1200 Fifth Avenue in Downtown Seattle . Inspired by the Japanese architecture of the historic building designed by renowned architect Minoru Yamaski in 1963 , the piece was created to provide a welcoming symbol to the building ’ s employees , clients , and guests .
To produce the piece , LightArt created large-scale branches peppered with cherry blossoms by utilizing parent-company 3form ’ s formable resin material - Veria . The result was a calming sculpture that interacts with the lobby ’ s central spiral staircase and mirrored ceiling and highlights the lobby ’ s height without taking away from the space ’ s mid-century , modern detailing .
