At the start of 2023 , Telecel announced that Vodafone Group had completed the transfer of its 70 % majority shares in Vodafone Ghana to Telecel . The government of Ghana is a minority shareholder in Vodafone Ghana , and shall remain so , with Vodafone having originally acquired its position in 2008 . The UK operator was never able to turn a profit in its Ghanaian operation , prompting its exit and Telecel ’ s introduction .
Telecel has gone on to announce the addition of 300 new 4G cell sites to the Vodafone Ghana network since February 2023 , as a first phase of a major network expansion programme .
