“This just goes to show how important it is to try for internships, even if you don’t think you are ready,” tells Bedney.

During her time at the Smithsonian, Bedney began by running errands and cohosting events, but her talent was spotted quickly, and she was asked to write press releases, attend conferences and seminars, and act as a PR liaison for the museum. “It was an incredible experience,” she notes fondly.

“I could not be more pleased with the opportunities I have had at CSUSB,” Bedney says. “Every communication student can do what I did—all it takes is a little effort and a willingness to be adventurous.”

The media studies concentration is a prestigious program in the Communication Studies major at Cal State San Bernardino.

The program focuses on topics and studies related to technology, messages, and reaching out to consumers of media. Mass media in action is when diversified technologies are used to reach a large audience through mass communication.

Examples of mass media used in mass communication include television, newspapers, books and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Subjects that are discussed in mass communication include the history of technology, the invention of social media sites, cultural imperialism, media representations, and more.

Career opportunities for the mass communication concentration include news analyst, screenwriting, film producer, journalist, movie editor, and more.
