Entrance to Fort

Fort Charlotte in St. Vincent offers spectacular views of Kingstown and the breathtaking surrounding landscape. Situated just to the west of Kingstown, the fort sits on a ridge 600 feet above sea level. It was constructed in 1806 by the British and was named after Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III. Unlike most Caribbean forts, its purpose was not to protect St. Vincent from marine attacks, but rather to defend against inland threats from the Caribs and French. As a result, most of its canons were pointed inland.
