KM: I've found in my martial arts career that there are some techniques that cannot even be taught until a student has mastered adequate balance. What has finding balance in your life as a trainer, fitness professional, business woman and mom been like?
AS: Balance…. to me is a funny concept. I’ve never found it and I probably never will because I’m not sure it exists. Things will always come up. I try to schedule my calendar with the things that need to get done and try my hardest to follow through. I probably work too much, but I also schedule in time for the things that matter the most. My daughter trumps all because I know someday she won’t need me like she does today. That’s one thing I couldn't forgive myself of.
KM: If there was one thing that you could put into anyone that wants to get fit that would guarantee they would make it to their fitness goals, what would it be?
AS: It’s hard to pick only one, because if it were really that easy everyone would be healthy and in shape. On the top of the list, however, "Follow the plan, trust the process, give yourself time and don’t make excuses why you can’t".
KM: What are your impressions of the fitness environment in Columbus?
AS: There are so many awesome options for people to choose from. Where I grew up there is the YMCA and a couple of training facilities, so comparatively Columbus is leaps and bounds beyond what some have to choose from.
KM: You said that food is one of the most important factors in fitness. Do you have a particular dish or meal in your program that you'd keep eating even if you could eat as much of anything that you like?
AS: Baked sweet potato fries with cinnamon. I like to bake them till they are chewy. LOL I know, it’s a little strange, but I can never stop eating them.
KM: What's your guilty Pleasure?
AS: Mexican- specifically the chips and cheese dip.
