When analyzing the fabric of individual achievement, some might say that it is the managing of the depth and breadth of life’s transitions that is the best metric with which to start the examination. Rise and fall. Offense to defense. Give and take. Stick and move. Time and change. We apprehend it all the time. It is often said, “The things that are the most endearing also happen to be, the most enduring.” To his credit Tim Bowe has been living this little proverb like a boss since he was a kid, and it’s brought him a very long way; but getting to this point was no easy task.
Timothy Bowe had to learn early on how to endure and navigate change. By almost any standard he’s led quite the life, and if the array of one’s experiences are the currency of our souls, then Tim is a very rich man indeed. Trouble, it seems, was a bit of a calling card for Tim Bowe as a young man. “I was a bully. I was the one that started fights.” he explained. He had gained a reputation in his high school in a small town in rural Alabama as the kid that liked to fight, even if he had to be the one starting it. Over the summers Tim would venture with his family to Columbus where while on vacation, he’d often make his way into the boxing ring with a friend at the Beatty Recreation Center. . When asked what it was that changed him from “bully” to “boxer” Tim reflected on the moment where on one such summer trip, some of Tim’s tormentees had enough and decided to band together. "They couldn’t handle me one on one so they jumped me, right there by the gym.” At the end of the skirmish Tim wandered into the gym and started hitting a heavy bag, catching the eye of the man that would eventually become his coach.
