Joojo Addison JA: No, I don’t think so. What we have is pop music with elements of Afrobeat; that’s what I think. I may be wrong but I think what most music artistes are doing isn’t Afrobeat. You have to understand music to a certain level in other to do music within the Afrobeat genre something close to what Fela did. He’s the pioneer of Afrobeat so one cannot do it better, you can only come close. CM: Are you voting in this year’s elections? JA: Yeah, I am. CM: Which party are you voting for? JA: Ummm…I won’t call myself a party sympathizer. I just vote for the party that appeals to me based on policies. CM: Do you think we as a country are heading in the right direction? JA: I will like to think we are. Things are gradually changing and this change isn’t defined by political performances but the mentality of the populace. Few years ago, the voting population in the country thought differently from today. Now we have more discerning voters. Away from politics, we have come far as a nation however there’s more we have to do to reach our destination. CM: List your top 5 rappers in 46 | Colossium . March 2020 Ghana. JA: My top 5? I will say… Reggie Rockstone, Obrafour, Sarkodie, M.anifest and E.L. CM: Is Hiplife dead? JA: No, Hiplife isn’t dead. I don’t think it will ever die. Hiplife is always evolving. It’s unfortunate we don’t have that many artistes doing ‘Hiplife’ like before but it’s not dead. CM: What was your reaction about Burna Boy not winning the Grammy? JA: I didn’t have any reaction. I love Angeline Kidjoe, she’s a legend. She really deserves to win and she did. CM: Do you have a girlfriend? JA: Hahahaha…I am all about work right now. Someday when it’s appropriate, I will consider having a girlfriend but not now. CM: In a nutshell, who will you say is Joojo Addison? JA: Ummm…Joojo Addison is the man I see in the mirror. He’s the man I see across the street, in trotro, at church… he’s the everyday person with a dream. Joojo Addison is the man who preaches through his music, sharing his struggles and successes with the world through his music. Joojo Addison is a simple man.
