OPINION Politricks Is The Play’s Title. Ghana Is The Theatre “ by Okunupa Nana Kwasi It’s all polictricks”, a friend once said to me. “It’s all games, my brother. They’re on the same team against us – the populace” he added. Another election year is upon us. As the political parties put it “we’re gearing up for the general elections”. To them it’s always about the populace queuing up whether rain or shine to provide jobs for them with the ballot papers provided them. “It’s your civic responsibility” becomes the mantra for the day. I thought paying taxes was more of a responsibility than choosing who leads us? But of course as I have come to observe, that mantra isn’t meant for us all – it’s meant for party sympathizers. This is a subject most populace shy away from. They either don’t want to comment on it due to their political affiliations or simply because they’ve had enough of the theatrics associated with politics in our part of the world. We run a very different kind of politics in Ghana. One that is filled with inaccurate information, 28| Colossium . Whenever a political party comes up for discussion, it’s not about implemented policies that are tabled but rather a number of the listed assertions above. What about policies, does the voting population truly care about policies or it’s all about the adrenaline rush they get when their fanaticism is challenged? Certainly nothing matters more to the Loyal Ladies of NPP than an opportunity
