JWK: Your Afrobeats mixtape. How was the
response and what inspired you to put it to-
gether?
PAQ: I was inspired to help rising artistes and
producers. I had top producers like Magnom to
collaborate with me on it. I mean we just want-
ed to help them get the recognition they need.
JWK: Are we getting the 2?
PAQ: Yeah, we are releasing the Afrobeat 2.
It was supposed to come out last year but we
had some issues which included me not mak-
ing time to finish up some of the beats. But it’s
going to happen this year.
JWK: Awesome. Let’s talk a bit about techni-
calities. I feel most Ghanaian music artistes are
lazy at writing and that contributes to the poor
performances of their songs after a few months
of airplay. Do you think we need more writers
who are not necessarily music artistes?
PAQ: I wouldn’t say we need more writers, I
mean everybody is doing what they’re cool
with and trending. Some people actually sit
down vibe and write.
JWK: How will you define your style in terms of
fashion? I see you rocking denim and stuff.
PAQ: I’m trying to find the balance between
street fashion and corporate. I’m not there yet –
I’m still trying to find that balance.
JWK: Who are you tipping for the Artiste of the
Year at this year’s VGMA?
PAQ: I will tip Shatta Wale. He’s been working
tirelessly all throughout last year. He’s been
dropping sounds upon sounds. He deserves it.
JWK: Do you think the VGMA is worth the
hype?
PAQ: Yeah it is, people outside are paying atten-
tion to it.
JWK: We will have to continue this conversa-
tion some other time.
PAQ: I enjoyed every bit of this.
