EDITOR’S letter Setting The Trend For 2019 2018 has been a great year for arts and entertainment in Ghana. The year began with the annual VGMAs – all the way down to the Chale Wote Street Arts Festival and now; Afrochella - this December. We have lost notable personalities like the late Kofi Annang and Dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns. We all mourned the passing of this super talented music artiste; I sometimes liken her to Aliyah (of blessed memories). I have profound mem- ories of this year. I’ve made new great friends – I will talk about my friends later. What has seemed to be the trend this year for me is the social consciousness for things that pertain the Africa culture; I’m talking about Food, Music, Arts and Fashion. People are now being drawn more to African wear which is a good thing. I paid a visit to la Maison; what a lovely place this is. This is the meeting point of class, luxu- ry and affordability. I knew this place will be perfect to set the trends for 2019. La Maison is a place that inspires you to work hard and achieve greatness. 7 | Colossium . December 2018 Our issue for December focuses on music and arts personalities. M.anifest helped us un- derstand what it means to “Appreciate Print Culture” while setting the new urban fashion trend for 2019 – he calls it the Kabba Move- ment. Anyway, back to la Maison. La Maison is two curated galleries showcasing an edited selection of home accessories, furni- ture, decorative items, art and also jewellery from around the world. The concept presents a visual recipe book for the successful com- bination of contemporary, design-forward, classic and eclectic styles; the result displayed in a series of mini settings that offer eye-candy and ideas for home improvement and lifestyle enchancement. The opening of these galleries of inspirational objects is the work of Nada Moukarzel, who has resided in Accra for al- most two decades. With the opening of these destination spaces, Moukarzel brings a stylish platform for design to the Ghanaian capital. She utilizes the spaces both as showroom and gallery, where the work of local artists is combined with that of internationally-laud- ed brands. As part of Nada’s creative vision, from time to time the La Maison spaces are reinvented as exhibition galleries for Ghanian artistic talent, and a series of events, including arts education for children, are hosted during the show periods.
