6. GLOBAL COLOR DETECTION SENSORS MARKET – BY TYPES Color detection sensors can be classified into different types based on the main characteristic on which the use case of the sensor is defined. RGB or color, contrast, brightness, luminescence and Print mark are the different types of sensors currently available in the market. The figure below gives an illustration of the market segmentation by usage or demand of the different types of sensors. RGB sensors are the most widely used sensors in different industries globally. Textiles, plastics, ceramics production and other products production which are based on continuous product processes use RGB sensors. These sensors split the light reflected from the product into red, green and blue components and check if each individual component is within the range of the tolerance level inputted. Hence they are an essential and widely used component in the production monitoring of plastics, tinted films, carpets, textiles, stained wood, packaging materials, automotive components, labels etc. Other sensor types like color or print mark sensors are effective in detecting colors at high speeds. They are mostly used for precision detection of color marks in printing processes, color registration mark verification, packaging, print to cut triangles for gluer-folder etc. Luminescence sensors are used in paint, grease, crayons, and gum, chalk, thread and adhesives industries. These sensors respond to luminescent tracers in a product which emit light in the visible spectrum IndustryARC | 17
