“If you are silent about your pain, they’ll kill you and say you enjoyed it,” Zora Neale Hurston once said, capturing the fundamental reason for protests. Without protests we allow our voices to be easily buried, manipulated and destroyed. For centuries White people have controlled and owned the narrative, manipulating history to show that they were the winners. Now it is our turn to take back the mic. If we don’t speak out against our oppressor it is easy for them to convince others that they are doing nothing wrong. We cannot afford to be silent in our suffering because that surely means our death.

White people try and convince us that we will only get things by asking nicely as If they are just a diligent parent and we the incessant child but in actuality they are the unrelenting warden and us the indignant prisoner. For centuries Whites have acquired things through violence so it only makes sense that we get those things back through violence if necessary. Blood may have to be the final price to pay for our freedom.
