“For crying out loud, whose kids
are these running around? Oh
wait, they're mine! Carry on...”
As this year draws to an end,
I'm trying to tie up loose ends.
My to-do list is constantly
growing, leaving behind many
incomplete projects! I blame our
kids.
Have you ever tried to tackle a
project while your kids are still in
the "toddler phase?” Any parent
will tell you that it's as fun as slid-
ing downhill on sandpaper, butt
naked. Every inch of the process
hurts and no matter how you
slice it, the ride feels painfully
never ending.
We're coming to the end of
our second major project since
having kids. When we decided
to have a second child and
couldn't figure out the right time,
we jumped in and told our-
selves, "What's the worst thing

that could happen?" Well, let
me tell you that trying to paint
a home with a toddler attempt-
ing to lick the freshly painted
walls is not a recipe for a good
time! (Check out Making Impact
with Color on page 52.) If that
would have been an episode of
Sesame Street, my word of the
day would have been “Don't” as
in “Don't touch that wall or else...”
No parent really knows what
the “or else” entails but we just
hope our kids never ask. There is
really no one else that can truly
test our sanity like our kids. They
push us past the breaking point
as if it is their life's mission to give
us gray hair!
I find it hard to believe that
our renovation project is almost
complete! If you are in the reno-
vation trenches as you read this,
remember that all renovations
come to an end. (Check out Ask
an Expert on page 28 for reno-
vation advice.) As I check off yet
another thing on my to-do list, I
look forward to turning the page
to make room for the new year.
With the release of all these new
trends, I find myself wondering
if I should take on a new project
or redesign an existing one to
integrate some of the stunning
colors taking center stage this
year. (Check out 2019 Color
Trends on page 48.)
I'm incredibly proud of all of
our design contributors who
came together to share with us
their trend predictions for the
coming year. (Check out Design-
er's Choice on page 36.) We've
had a lot of fun putting this issue
together. Enjoy!

Sharp has a Super
Steam and Convec-
tion Oven that I love!
It’s 3 ovens in one:
whether you’re cook-
ing with super heated
steam, regular steam,
or convection heating,
you can cook anything
just the way you want.
