What once started out with four teams competing against each other at a church, has now developed into a 40 team event, taking place at three separate locations across the state. The first set of games, which runs for three consecutive weeks and where Colonial Springs competed, was held at the SBU Meyer Wellness Center in Bolivar. This year, 12 residents represented CSHCC at the games. This year, our theme was The Polar Express. The ladies wore flannel pajamas and the men were dressed as the conductors of the train, which took us on a fun-filled adventure. As the day went on, we traveled to each event to obtain our goal for the day, which was to win medals. We had to ‘believe’ in ourselves as we competed against 11 other facilities in a variety of events including: cow milking, basketball toss, hog calling, bingo, soccer kick, horseshoes, trivia and wheelchair races. Each team was also judged as to the “spirit” that they showed throughout the day through cheers, comradely, and companionship with others. The winner of this award received a traveling trophy and a $250 gift card for the activity department. Unfortunately, we did not win the spirit award. All in all, we had a great time at this year’s games. We brought home several medals including: Brenda Stewart – 3rd in cow milking Betty Owens – 1st in hog calling, 1st in wheelchair races, 3rd in quiz bowl and 5th in yarn work Bettie Eyssell – 3rd in horseshoes Raymond Booth - 4th in woodworking, Thelma Marsh - 1st in handiwork Rita Sexton - 2nd in handiwork Lindle Wiley 4th in other crafts Eloise Stidham 2nd in embroidery CSHCC also won first place in the group craft with our balloon display made out of bottle caps. As a team, we brought home 2nd place for highest team score. Most importantly, we brought home many memories, new friendships and many. We would like to thank Mrs. Cook’s Skyline FCCLA students, who went out of their way and helped us throughout the games. They were a great help. We appreciate their generosity in assisting our residents and helping cheer for our team.
