Kenneth Parker was born on
June 12, 1932, to John and Mary
Parker in Lamar, Colo. He was an only
child.
Kenny traveled around a lot as a
child because his father worked for the
Civil Service. It wasn’t until he was in
high school that his family settled
down.
Kenny graduated from West Lake
High School in West Lake, La. Within a
year, he joined the Marine Corp and
served our country for three years dur-
ing the Korean War. When he was dis-
charged he moved to Missouri which
was where his parents were living at
that time.
He began working for a heavy
equipment operator who resided in
Camdenton. Later he joined the union
and worked a variety of jobs through
various companies.
One day on his way home from
work, he stopped at Velma’s Bar. Here
he met the owner of the bar, Velma,
herself. They became acquainted and
after a few more stops,” I latched her
up,” says Kenny.
Kenny and Velma were married on
April 2, 1955. They enjoyed more than
55 wonderful years together. “I could
not have loved anyone more in my life
than I did Velma. She was and still is
my heart and soul,” comments Kenny.
After the Parker’s were married, they
moved to Macks Creek and eventually
purchased his parents 40-acre farm.
Velma loved the farm life. She raised
cattle, chickens and hogs. She also
loved to garden. Kenny continued to
work as a heavy equipment operator
until his retirement in 2004 at the age
of 72. “I never was the type of person
to sit around and do nothing. After I
retired, I worked my cattle and did odd
jobs to help other people,” adds Kenny.
Kenny was saved in 1962 and is a
member of the First Baptist Church of
Macks Creek. He served as the Sunday
school Superintendent for 35 years. He
continues to serve the Lord by attend-
ing Bible studies, Sunday school clas-
ses and church services here at Coloni-
al.
Kenny is a joy to be around. He is a
very happy-go-lucky guy and he always
has the staff and other residents in
stitches. Thank you Kenny for allowing
us to get to know you a little bit better.
