Resident Spotli ght
Lilli an Polly
Lillian Polly was born on May 7,
1917 to Arthur and Lucy Knapp on her
family’s original homestead in Montreal, Mo. She was the second oldest
child, having two sisters and three
brothers. She grew up in Montreal and
graduated from Stoutland High School
in 1934.
After graduation, she moved to
Buffalo with her younger sister and
worked at the local café. When World
War II began, they moved to Memphis
to work at a bullet plant. Eventually,
Lillian and her sister returned to Missouri. Lillian moved to Camdenton and
worked at a local drug store, while her
sister moved to Lebanon.
While working at the drug store, she
met Luther Polly, a local widower and
and father. After dating for several
years and were married in 1956. The
couple eventually relocated to Luther’s
farm, located just east of Buffalo. Instantly, Lillian became a farmer’s wife
and would help with milking cows and
other chores around the farm. In her
free time, Lillian would tend to her
flower and vegetable garden, which
was an acre in size. “I love my flowers,”
stated Lillian. “I enjoy watching them
grow and the beauty that they possessed.”
Lillian and Luther never had any
children, but she loved his like they
were her own.
When they weren’t farming, the
Polly’s would go antiquing. They loved
to collect dishes and furniture.
In 1970, after Luther passed, Lillian
began working at Buffalo’s MFA Farm
and Home store. She would spend the
next twenty years taking care of the
local farmers in meeting their farming
needs.
Eventually, Lillian decided that the
farm was too much to take care. In
1994,she decided to move into the
Buffalo city limits. Even though she
lived in town, she continued to have a
beautiful flower garden, which her
neighbors envied.
In 2013, Lillian made Colonial
Springs Healthcare Center her home.
She enjoys being out and about with
the other ladies and gentlemen at Bible
studies, church services, musical activities, parties, outings, and nail care.
Most of all, she enjoys time spent with
her family. “My family has always been
important to me and I love their visits,”
says Lillian with a smile.
