When do patients need our type of specialty hospital? VULNERABILITY IS A POWERFUL MOTIVATOR. OUR SPECIALTY HOSPITALS CAN HELP. It demands compassion, attention and action. You may never have seen your loved one as vulnerable as he or she is right now. Your loved one may have experienced one setback after another – ventilators, wounds, infections or organ failure. But they are still fighting and that means there is still hope. Our treatment teams specialize in caring for patients who have complex medical conditions and are not ready to be on their own. These are the few patients who need more time and more attention. They need specialized physician and nursing care. We use a team approach that combines advanced and traditional therapies. We offer the attentive, compassionate care that your loved one needs most during this vulnerable time. Our smaller setting provides the kind of focused, extended care that sets Select Medical’s specialty hospitals apart. The traditional hospital may have stabilized your loved one. They may have provided excellent care that has helped your loved one survive. However, improvement has been slow and your loved one needs more time and additional care. About Our Hospitals Select Medical’s specialty hospitals are long-term acute care hospitals (LTACHs) that operate under the names Select Specialty and Regency Hospitals. Our hospitals are state licensed, Medicare-certified and accredited by the Joint Commission. In addition, our clinical practice is guided by more than 200 local medical directors and chief nursing officers, all of whom are educated on rigorous protocols approved by Select Medical’s National Medical Advisory Board. Chaired by Select Medical’s national medical director – pulmonologist and critical care specialist, Dr. David Jarvis – the board consists of more than 15 leading physicians and clinical specialists. Together, the board and local hospital leadership help our treatment teams to recognize and use many of the most successful, evidence-based practices and protocols available. BETWEEN 2009 AND 2012, MORE THAN 70 PERCENT OF OUR PATIENTS SUCCESSFULLY PROGRESSED TO A LESS INTENSE LEVEL OF CARE, including their own homes. Achieving results – and working hard to deliver an exceptional patient care experience – is all part of The Select Medical Way. Select Medical’s specialty hospitals form a national network of 111 long-term acute care sites across the United States. The network also includes more than a dozen medical rehabilitation hospitals and more than 950 outpatient clinics. Our specialty hospitals are also known as long-term acute care hospitals.
